To ensure the safety of our dancers and do our part for community health and well-being, Art as Action will be suspending Reconnect with your Body classes for the next two weeks. (March 16-29)
This was a difficult decision – in times of turbulence where anxiety and fear are impossible to escape, dance provides us with an outlet to express our feelings and have a safe space to feel vulnerable. Under these extraordinary circumstances, though, the risk of being together feels higher than the benefit.
That said, let’s keep dancing and using technology to stay connected. We will be offering classes online through Zoom – more details of how to dance with us virtually coming soon. In true Reconnect form, we will treat this need to modify as an opportunity for creativity. I’ve never taught a class online before, this will be a new adventure.
As my dance teacher said to me in an email this morning about cancelling her own classes: “we suspend so we can continue.” We will keep everyone informed as things continue to unfold. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns, or just to check in.
Let’s all remember our Reconnect values as we navigate this difficult time. Be gentle with yourself. Remember to breath. Only do as much or as little feels good and safe for your body. You get a gold star just for showing up (or in this case, for staying home!) If you’re feeling lost, put on some music and let it move you. Our inner dancer wisdom and the support of our dancer community persists, even when we cannot be together.
yours in Art and Action, with deep gratitude,
Artistic Director/Reconnect teacher
P.S. Here is the Spotify playlist I use every week in class – enjoy!
