“inhabiting & embodying our collective imagination as a tool of resistance & resilience” (Liturgy for Turbulent Times)

meet the Artivists: Sarah, Leann, Amy, Margie

Liturgy for Turbulent Times brings together an unlikely collective of creative voices with a variety of impetuses for being a part of this show. Here are a few of the voices that created this one of a kind performance:

“I am a dancer: I communicate through my body. I am a daughter, niece, sister, aunt & friend: fiercely loyal to my core. I am a space maker: I create spaces for people to discover & explore their inherent creative genius. I am expansive: constantly searching for ways to take up space. I am in the after: carrying the heavy weight of grief. I am wonder: allowing for mystery, gratitude and humanity.

“I’m an Artivist because inhabiting & embodying our collective imagination is my greatest tool of resistance and resilience.”
– SARAH LEVERSEE

“When I heard about this show, I just had to be a part of it. It speaks to the troubles we experience everyday and it holds hope for better days ahead. That’s what my poetry is about. I try not to complain or fill my writing with too much sadness because that’s just not me. Through several rewrites of this piece I finally felt comfortable when I changed the very last line to “I’m ready” from “I’m not ready for it.” As a society, we must be safe and free to walk down our streets, speak our minds, cure our ills … this is a place where we can do that.

“I’m an Artivist because it’s fun! And … the shared experience of collaborative and inclusive art is essential in today’s fractured world.” – AMY DRESSEL-MARTIN

“I’m excited to be part of the creation of this show. I’ve loved watching it evolve from a single idea. It continually took on new life as each performer figured out how to connect their creative offering into the whole. It offers a framework for navigating our current turbulent times, and may inspire you to tap into your own creative offering. I’m an Artivist because it puts me in the receiving mode to hear the call of the creative power of the Universe, and it inspires me to express myself.” – LEANN ROBERTS

“Performing with the Reconnect dancers gives me a sense of family: the unconditional love, support and understanding that is provided within that environment. My goal is that our performance will instill that same sense in the audience, especially when the outside world may seem so chaotic…. PEACE.

“I am an Artivist because the magic of dance has allowed my PD symptoms to ease so I can experience the flow of peace in my body.” – MARGIE DAHLIN
