“art is the highest form of hope” (artivist news)

It has been a hot hot Summer in Artivist-land and we are gearing up for a transformational Fall!

Save the Date: Reconnect 7th Birthday Celebration

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 1-3PM AT COLORADO CONSERVATORY OF DANCE IN BROOMFIELD

In 2011, a poet with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), his sister and his niece started a dance class for people with and without PD.  Seven years later the tiny Reconnect with your Body class has become a thriving multi-faceted program of Art as Action and has transformed our multi-disciplinary performance collective into a fully integrated company.

Help us celebrate this one-of-a-kind program and the remarkable dancers who are the heart and soul of Reconnect.  Join us for a family-friendly community class, a brief performance and a reception.  Online ticket sales will be available in late August.

reconnect outreach: local impact, national exposure

  • The new Community Engagement Team at the Michael J. Fox Foundation contacted Art as Action as a valued leader in the Parkinson’s community.  Sarah had a phone interview with a team member – they were really excited about all the aspects of the Reconnect program, and noted how unique our program is nationally.  It is exciting to be on the radar of such a large organization and we look forward to opportunities for connection in the future!
  • Art as Action has been invited to lead a Reconnect dance break during the Parkinson Association of the Rockies’ annual e3 Conference in September and have a Reconnect dance station at their Empowerment Bar.
  • Sarah will attend a 3 day Advanced Teacher Training at Dance for PD Headquarters (Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn, NY) in October with Dance for PD Founding Teacher David Leventhal.
  • For the third year in a row, Art as Action has been invited to lead a Reconnect dance break during the Movement Disorders Center Parkinson Symposium in October.

our mission

Art as Action brings people together at the intersection of dance, (dis)ability and creative potential.

19 years of Artivism

Art as Action was founded in 2002 to be a collaborative collective of Artivists— which we define as champions and ambassadors of the communal, universal, and healing language of art. Artivism emboldens the distinct, rare creativity deep within each individual.

OUR MISSION: Art as Action brings people together at the intersection of dance, (dis)ability and creative potential.
